I've collected some info on natural hair care and thought I'd share it here.
I opt for more natural choice whenever it's possible. It might sound odd knowing I put all sort of chemicals on my nails..! But as for stuff that gets in contact with my skin I'm more caucious. I also like to be aware of what goes down the drain, back to the nature, when I take a shower.
The names of ingredients can be puzzling though and far from natural sounding.
Here's a little vocabulary on the ingredients you should look for (sorry, I don't remember the exact sources I collected the info from):
English name (INCI name) SuomeksiShea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) KaritevoiSoothing, moisturizing and protecting effects. For the presence of a sizeable quantity of unsaponifiable fats, its content in vitamins and other active elements, shea butter adds other more precise activities to these general properties. For cinnamic acid it protects against UV rays. Good leave-in conditioner as is!
Beantree (Capryl Isostearate)Plant derived emollient (from coffee bean & pine tree). As an emollient it is used to improve feel in hand and add shine to hair. A natural replacement for silicone.
Chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis) KamomillaAn herb that purifies, calms and soothes (the scalp). Also accentuates golden shine in light hair. Relaxing scent.
Marshmallow Root (Althea Offinalis) LääkemalvaSoothes both the skin and scalp, providing relief from skin and scalp irritation. Also detangles.
Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis)Moisturizing and said to be effective in fighting hair loss for containing biotin, b-vitamins, zinc and inositil. It also contains anti-bacterial properties that keep the scalp healthy by controlling scalp infections that can prohibit hair growth. Used in after-sun products for its soothing effect.
Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Nokkonen
Stimulates circulation and is useful for dry scalps. Also brings up the depth and shine in dark hair. Useful in final rinses - easy and dirt cheap to make yourself.
JojobaHelps restore the skin's natural Ph balance, very similar to the natural sebum of the skin. Adds moisture, shine and softness to hair. Can be used as a hot-oil-treatment along with another oil. Also good leave-in product.
In this pic my supplies for hair AND skin care: jojoba and avocado oil on front, glycerin in the brown bottle (to be stored in a fridge), yellow liquid is Polysorbate-20, next to it a bottle of witch hazel (I store it in a fridge too), Shea Butter oil bottle, Rhassoul Clay, Shikakai, Amla, soap nuts in a large box at the very back. Back there on the left a spray I made with some of the stuff here.Volcanic clay (Bentonite) BentoniittiDerived from volcanic ash, acts as a magnet to remove dulling cells, pollution, build-up and toxins, then polishes skin and hair for a fresh, bright, smooth, and soft finish. This clay is super fine and not gritty. Rinses off like sugar. But beware it also absorbs moisture - don't leave on for too long.
GlycerinA sugar derived from soybean and corn oil, glycerin humectant. Not too heavy but a good moisturizer. Great for leave-in sprays!
Seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) MerileväBecause it is a particularly rich source of minerals, trace elements, and other nutrients, seaweed is an ideal human health food, animal feed supplement, and plant fertilizer. Frøytang, harvesting in unpolluted waters at the most nutritious point in the plant's growth cycle, delivers Ascophyllum of the highest quality and value.

Where to getMost of these ingredients listed I've tried and mixed with each other myself. Some supplies I've bought from pharmacy or local health store, some ordered online from
GOW,
Pieni Tuoksukauppa and eBay.
I've got plenty of recipes for hair care too in the files. Nice to whip up some home-made hair masks now in the winter time, while relaxing in the sauna.
If you have any questions I'll try my best to answer to them :)
